April Fool's Giveaway

THIS IS NOT A JOKE!!

What better day then today to post my new giveaway?T  here will be no practical jokes here, just a great giveaway!

Hachette has sent me some great books to review and giveaway.  5 lucky readers will each win these books.  Here's what's up for grabs...

On a hot summer afternoon in 1972, three teenagers drove into an unfamiliar neighborhood and six lives were altered forever.
Thirty five years later, one survivor of that day reaches out to another, opening a door that could lead to salvation. But another survivor is now out of prison, looking for reparation in any form he can find it.
THE TURNAROUND takes us on a journey from the rock-and-soul streets of the '70s to the changing neighborhoods of D.C. today, from the diners and auto garages of the city to the inside of Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital, where wounded men and women have returned to the world in a time of war. A novel of fathers and sons, wives and husbands, loss, victory and violent redemption.

Sarah Walters, the narrator of GIRLS IN TRUCKS, is a reluctant Camellia Society debutante. She has always felt ill-fitted to the rococo ways of Southern womanhood and family, and is anxious to shake the bonds of her youth. Still, she follows the traditional path laid out for her. This is Charleston, and in this beautiful, dark, segregated town, established rules and manners mean everything.
But as Sarah grows older, she finds that her Camellia lessons fail her, particularly as she goes to college, moves North, and navigates love and life in New York. There, Sarah and her group of displaced deb sisters try to define themselves within the realities of modern life. Heartbreak, addiction, disappointing jobs and death fail to live up to the hazy, happy future promised to them by their Camellia mothers and sisters.
When some unexpected bumps in the road--an unplanned birth, a family death--lead Sarah back home, she's forced to take another long look at the fading empire of her youth. It takes a strange turn of events to finally ground Sarah enough to make some serious choices. And only then does she realize that as much as she tried to deny it, where she comes from will always affect where she ends up. The motto of her girlhood cotillion society, "Once a Camellia, always a Camellia," may turn out to have more wisdom and pull to it than she ever could have guessed.

I tried to get to 100 comments on my 100th post, and although we got close, we didn't make it.  So, I'm going to try something else to get the comments up there!  When we go OVER 100 comments, 1 random person will win the following books + 2 surprise books from my personal stash!

  • Tweet about this contest and leave me the link to your tweet +2 entries
  • Blog about this contest +3 entries

I like the April Fool's Day jokes that only "surprise" someone for a few minutes then the person confesses and everyone has a good laugh. I don't like the jokes that make someone believe that something is true and it worries that person all day. I read one where the husband "faked" being laid off. His wife found a note in his pocket. So all day she worried, called family, etc. only to find out later that night it was a joke. Ummm my husband would be sleeping on the sofa for a very long time begging my forgiveness. So not cool to me but to each their own.

Ok that was way too long LOL. Please enter me into your giveaway!

Thanks!

Oh I subscribe via google.

I don't really like April Fool's Day. Mainly because I really don't like surprises all that much.

I'd love to win these books, though. That would be one surprise I'd like. ;) I follow your blog via Blogger's follow function.

Thanks for hosting this giveaway.

I don't care one way or the other about April Fool's Day. I don't like jokes that harm or hurt someone, but can appreciate a harmless prank once in a while!

Thanks,

Thank you Beth F for posting about this contest. I don't know how I missed it this week since I am a subscriber and (I thought) loyal reader of your blog.

I am not a fan of April Fools mostly because I don't like to feel foolish in front of others (it is very hard for me to laugh at myself - I take myself way too seriously).

I would love to be entered in the contest --- Girls in Trucks has intrigued me for quite a while.

Good luck reaching your goal of 100 comments!!

I enjoy HEARING about cute April Fools jokes, but don't generally like to bear the brunt of them. I take things too personally. :) This year, I didn't even really notice the day until it was over. (My son and I were sick, so I guess we weren't in the spirit of things).

Take care!!

April Fool's Day wasn't fun this year because my computer was down and I was worried about the big computer virus. (it wasn't the problem) Otherwise it tends to be just another day-my kids are pranksters all year round.

I remember one April Fool's day one of the kids rang Dad on his cell phone once everyone had gone to bed and kept hanging up. Then we all pretended to be getting really annoyed with Dad and this stupid cell phone that was keeping us all awake.
It could have gone on for hours if we could all have kept a straight face.

I think April Fool's Day jokes can be funny but sometimes pranks can be hurtful or dangerous. Then I don't think they're so funny.

Anonymous said...

I'm kind of on the fence about April Fools. I never get to trick someone because I can never seem to be convincing enough. But I don't try to do anything mean spirited, just stupid little things like 'Your shoe is untied.'

I'm not a big fan of April Fools' Day. So many jokes seem mean-spirited rather than just clever, and it doesn't seem nice to point fingers and call someone a fool for being tricked. I'd love it if it were reframed in a way that celebrated clever, non-threatening tricksterism

April Fool's can be fun, I guess but it can be dangerous. My grandmother got married on April Fool's Day. (deceased now) I don't know if that helped or hurt her marriage. lol
