Snapshot Saturday - February 5

The Winter Storm of 2011!!

Many of you are probably thinking, "really, that's a winter storm?"  Well, when you live in south Texas ice does apparently constitute a state of emergency.  We had been hearing all week that we had the possibility of snow yesterday, so, with bated breath, we all waited.  Businesses starting closing early on Thursday, afternoon school activities were canceled, and then schools starting closing for Friday.  Our school district waited, but finally at 2 on Thursday, it was clear that we would not work either.  There you have it...we will have a snow day, or so we thought!  This is really what we got...

Nice huh?  I actually took this picture at school on Thursday, but all we got from the "winter storm" was a lot of ice!  It did make for a treacherous day for those that had to get out...not me!  Over 800 accidents were reported in the city of Houston yesterday.  All I have to say is, "duh, didn't you hear them telling you to stay off the roads?"  It's obvious that here in TX, we don't have much experience with icy roads.  So, call us silly, crazy, whatever you like.  I know you want to!

You can join Saturday Snapshot by posting a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken then leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky at Alyce's blog, At Home With Books. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see.

Ice is much worse than snow!! I'm glad you're safe.

Ice is so scary -- that's what we had too. And what is it about people who think they have to go driving anyway?

We got what was left of your storm up here in Ontario. It ended up being lots of hype and not much substance: some snow and wind but not the 'storm of the decade' like they were calling for.

In Minnesota - where we are used to the winters of slick roads and piles of snow they still do not know how to drive on it :)

I like the picture!

Oh, ice is frightening...it's so deceptive and slippery. When I see photos of ice, I'm reminded of that movie The Ice Storm. That will give you a whole new view of ice!

Thanks for sharing.

Here's my SATURDAY SNAPSHOT

Geez louise, can't they pay attention to warnings of staying off the roads? That's terrible, I hadn't heard about all of the reported accidents, but despite that, your snapshot looks amazing. :)

You wonder sometimes don't you, do people hear warnings. Ice is not nice at all. Our transit driver said he had a great day, there were not too many idiots out, even though he had to work.

I'm glad you're safe! We've learned to take the ice warning seriously here too. Although one time we were driving home from my parents house and a storm of freezing rain took us by surprise. The car was encased with ice by the time we got home and I was a nervous wreck.

Yep, not a fan of ice either. Give me snow or give me nothing.
Actually, a nice spring day sounds good about now.
Have a good day.

We have your snow up here in Chicago! Lots and lots of it. The ice is nasty. It crashes cars and takes down power lines. Stay safe.

Ice is awful...I'd much rather have a ton of snow. Great picture, though!

I've got a picture of the ice here in Indiana...

The winter weather has been causing so many accidents. Hopefully the worst is over!

I despise ice! And so you can feel better, we in Seattle get called all kinds of names when we shut down for ice and snow too. What people don't know or remember, is that our whole metropolitan area is built on hills! And we don't have as many snow plows to clear us all because our big snow storms are so few and random.
Glad you got to stay home and stay safe.
*smiles*
